Based at Cotgreave Farm and riding out into Shipley Country Park

Hacking is one of my favourite things. I enjoy doing a bit of everything with my horses and try to keep learning and improving in all areas but I think Hacking and going on long treks in particular is my favourite. There's nothing better than going exploring and finding new routes and then when you find a nice stretch of grass going for a good canter.

In order to do this and enjoy this though, you first need to feel safe and have control of your horse in different environments. This course is designed for those who are confident riding in a small area and want to progress to hacking out or would like more confidence when out hacking. We will start by looking at how to improve your horses respect in you as a leader in a safe area and I will give you strategies to use to keep your horse's focus on you and help them stay calm and relaxed. We will begin to use and test these strategies in new environments and more open spaces working up to being able to go for a trail ride as a group when you and your horse are ready.

Pre requisites - you must be able to play the seven games and be able to ride your horse in walk and trot.

"Just like to say a big thank you Rachel for changing our world ,since our trail clinic last week we've hacked out in and around the village a couple of times without a hiccup, she was calm ,connected , and beautifully responsive in all gaits, thank you for teaching me how to set us up for success" - Ned Palmer, May 2018

"Just had the most fantastic 3 days with Rachael Shawyer who was helping me help Ted to become more confident out hacking. I’ve learnt so much and so has Ted. Both our brains are full 😀 Met some lovely people with their horses and everyone was amazing. I’m so proud of Ted as it really took him out of his comfort zone to begin with, but he took it all on board. He worked so hard every day and was still bright eyed and bushy tailed at the end. We had a brilliant hack out today through the village, Bridlepaths, over little bridges, overgrown tracks, a bog 🙈 and met all sorts of things along the way. The horses were fab and we even stopped for lunch where we could all chill out for a bit.

Thankyou so much Rachael, I can’t believe the change in my boy and I can’t stop smiling xx"
